A father and son journey through the Appalachian Trail

Day 27 – Zero Day at the Appalachian Mountain Creek Resort

Friday, May 6th

Steps: 6177 (Off-trail)

Not much happened today in the way of hiking whereas we all concurred that it would be good to take only our second “zero” since being on the trail. The weather forecast called for rain so that supported our decision to rest, and to stay dry. Unfortunately, the next few days were expected to be wet and cold! We had Dunkies for breakfast, then took advantage of the hotel’s jacuzzi, sauna, and Bier Garten where we had nachos and beer outside, but under cover.

There were a bunch of dirt bikers racing down the hill and showering off their mud soaked clothes at the bottom. It was actually a perfect day for that activity and they all were having a blast!

While inside our hotel room, we watched parts of “Draft Day” starring Kevin Costner, and subsequently “Pearl Harbor”, all while a gas fire was burning in the background in the fireplace. And we each did a load of laundry and ate some amazing leftovers.

Later in the day, I took a short, relaxing walk on the road where the resort was located, and also on the resort grounds. It was a perfect day to chill and to spend with Teresa.
